The battle of the Ham Wikis

Alright –

I just got off the phone with Trevor KG6MDW and Jason W6SN, owners of http://www.hamwiki.info. We had a great discussion, and feel that we’ve made some definite inroads in resolving this issue. Henry Kissinger would be proud.

Several topics were discussed, including the unfortunate defacement of http://www.hamwiki.info supposedly in our name. I told him that such actions are disgusting and are certainly not endorsed by myself or anyone involved with the operation of Hamsexy (which is the truth). Such actions go against the very spirit of Ham radio, and do nothing to support anyone’s cause.

We’ve called a truce, and we’re currently in talks to work out an amicable solution that favours both myself and W6SE. Both of us consider this matter closed, and would urge anyone who is continuing to harass http://www.hamwiki.info to cut it out. Needless to say we both see eye-to-eye, and the issue has been put behind us.

I’ll post more ont his issue as it develops. Thakns to everyone who was concerned enough to make their views known.

I don’t see their site lasting too long, their articles suck, not to mention, that some australian hacker group already exploited their server…. Check out the sheer number of banned ip’s they have already…

  2. Lenny says:

Wait and see which one gets the most relevant traffic. Of course there will be spoilers out there, posting goofy stuff.

    Well,

If all this is true, perhaps you can have your attorney send this gentleman a Cease and Desist Letter explaining:

    1. He is violating your Common Law Trademark, and,

    2. He is likely violating Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act. See 15 USC ยง1125.

    3. He is likely violating Unfair Trade Practice laws of his state, and other states (this is, after all, the Internet).

Just a suggestion. But, what do I know?

  4. KC9ECI says:

I’m surprised. He comes across as a petulant 12 year old.

  5. w6sn says:

The call is actually w6sN, not w6se. Either way, grithock, thanks for your vote of support. We are still adding articles, and working on existing articles to refine them.

Lenny: Of course that will happen.

SMS: It actually happened that we announced about the same time. I just didn’t have an existing site to do my official “announcement” on, such as hamsexy, but regardless, there is no need for bryan and I to go anywhere else like court.

KC9ECI: I apologize for my earlier comment, had a bad day, then all the accusations that we were trying to rip-off another site… If I _were_ trying to rip another site off, one might think it’d be a form of flattery… Also, if I were able to rip something off this fast… I’d have to pat myself on the back.

Again, sorry for any misunderstandings that arose, and 73, and hope to hear some of you on the air someday.

    W6SN, Jason

Thanks for your comment, Jason! Yes, everyone.. this situation is quite resolved, and we’re both all friends and whatnot.

  7. mrcpu says:

To be honest, if anyone ripped anything off… both sites “ripped” off the idea from wikipedia! Then again, wikipedia got the idea from the whole wiki concept and wtf knows where that came from!

As they say, “Great Minds Think Alike” and “Fools Seldom Differ”!

While I don’t agree with putting down someone elses site, I think that ultimately the site with the best content will get more content, and besides its FOR ham radio in good faith and not a competition!

  8. ak7v says:

These stupid wiki pissing matches are the computer geek version of the very stuff you make fun of in ham radio – self-important dorks with nothing better to do than design a realm with which they feign some sort of authority.

    Glad you settled it.
