Adam F4DDP sent us some photos of a recent ham radio gathering near Warsaw, Poland.

Group shot!

The pride of Poland – Polish Sausages!!

Adam F4DDP (with XTS3000) and friend examine the scene

The only thing better than Polish sausage – Polish women!

To the rescue… Shoulder Radio Man!!

Drunk ham randomly kissing people. The looks of the men behind him are priceless…. disgust…. or… envy?

Now THAT’S a radio!

Thanks to Adam F4DDP for the photos and the translations. Adam is currently working on launching Poland’s first digital ham radio repeater – tune into the Hamsexy Forums for more information.

Hamsexy Net Controllers needed

Due to my not being able to be around for most Hamsexy nets as I am stuck in Taiwan’s 12 hour time zone difference from North America, I need some more people to step forward to do net control for our weekly Wednesday Night net.

If you are interested, please PM me from within the Hamsexy Forums. From there, all net controllers will get access to the private Net Controller message forum, in which you will be assigned a night to do net control.

Again, if you are interested and can do it at least one a month or so, please PM me.

Thanks!

Marshall, Michigan Hamfest

Our good friend Scott KC8EMH sent us these photos from the Marshall, Michigan hamfest, held recently.

The Motley Crue

It’s probably too small to see, but the taped sign says “Radio Testing Station”

What is a hamfest without a table of boatanchors?

Lots of room to pour concrete inside to make the boatanchor nice and sturdy….

Removes overhead streetsigns and underground parking pipes with ease and comfort

Look at that stack of folded dipoles… and what does that sign on the luggage ladder say?

Oooh. A “danger, radio wave radiation warning” sign. Not only am I ham, I’m dangerous too! What a great way to foster relations between ham radio and the rest of normal society.

Another case of not wanting to ruin your shitty car by committing to NMO mounts

Thanks!! Keep the submissions coming!!

Wheaton, Illinois hamfest

First of all, many apologies to Michael N9OGC. He submitted these photos to us in mid-January, but amidst the hassle of my move to Taiwan his e-mail got lost in the shuffle. I found it today, though – so better late than never, here are N9OGC‘s photos. Sorry, Michael – and thanks for the submission!!

Dear friends – Here are some pictures from the Wheaton Community Radio Amateurs Mid-Winter Hamfest in St. Charles, Illinois. Hope you like them!

What a cold, chilly day….

What the hell is that wooden thing? Any ideas?

A waste of a pickup – with lousy antenna placement to boot.

It doesn’t matter what the car – long HF antennae tied down NEVER looks good.

How to look like both a whacker and a suburban soccer dad at exactly the same time

It’s not Hamsexy.com unless we include at least ONE whacker light

How to ruin a perfectly good truck in exactly 4 antennae

Tied down or not, HF antennae on cars NEVER look good. All that’s missing is one of those old VW bugs with that gay key sticking out of the roof.

Thanks again for the submission. Keep ’em coming!!

Ham Clown of the Month!

While surfing the intarweb the past few days, looking for interesting content for Hamsexy, I came upon an interesting thread over on eHam.

It seems a hammy named Bill, otherwise known as N6AYJ, has a beef with some operators on or around 3840 KHz:

I was listening to 3840 last night here on the West coast and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing: Ranting, raving, jamming, music, cussing, etc., etc. for hours on end. Totally out of control!

It made me ashamed to be an amateur. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of thing. All of those hams should have their licenses revoked! And what about all those bootleggers? Why doesn’t the Commission do something about them?

It is really sickening, and I am having serious reservations about whether I want to continue to be a ham or not. Why doesn’t Riley Hollingsworth do something about it, rather than making speeches and mouthing platitudes?

At first glance, that is mighty interesting… I thought all the OM claimed that everything below 11m was the Golden Land because they were all so amazing that they had CW privledges… isn’t that an argument many OM have made for keeping code? I digress…

Anyhoo! Upon further investigation of our dear complainer Bill, we find that he has graced the pages of Hamsexy once before:

For those that are newer to Hamsexy, please take a look here:
Bill sends a crazed letter to our man in the FCC, Riley.

For those of you who really really want to wade through the TWENTY-FOUR page nonsensical diatribe that Bill sent Riley (really, it’s quite hilarious!), I’ve gone ahead and uploaded a pdf for your reading pleasure:
Bill and his words
One of my favorite quotes in his letter is that Bill’s “…a trendsetter…”

Kinda reminds me of another favorite quote of mine:

“I’m a loner, Riley. A rebel.”

Of course, what did you expect from someone who calls “[r]eceiving two Warning Notices from Riley Hollingsworth” as one of the proudest accomplishments in ham radio?

So, Bill, for your continued dedication to all that’s wrong with ham radio today, I happily award you the prestigious Hamsexy Ham Clown of the Month Award!

Enjoy!

Famous Hams

I’ve developed a little bit of interest in famous hams – celebrities who also happen to be amatuer radio operators.

So – I’ve decided to compile a list on the main page (purely for interest’s sake) of famous amateur radio operators.

There are some obvious ones that are well known (Joe Walsh WB6ACU from the Eagles, Country singer Ronnie Milsap WB4KCG, etc.) as well as some that are rumoured but not 100% confirmed (such as the popular rumour that rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot is a ham (Anthony Ray N6IWP)…..

Do you know of a celeb who is a ham? Let us know by replying to this thread. Please provide callsign info with your accusations (We don’t want to be sued – groundless accusations of being a ham might lead to nasty lawsuit situations, dontcha know…)

After we get a few, I’ll compile them into a list and make a permalink on the main page for future visitors to examine and say “My God….. and to think I respected him as a human being and an artist…. who knew he was a ham….”
