Scooter Sexy

As an avid motorcyclist, I’ve had the opportunity to try out various types of two-wheel vehicles. When I was living in Taiwan, my main ride was a nice 150cc black Kymco scooter. My current bike is a 2000 Honda Shadow 750. I’ve been caught in enough storms on my bike to know that stormchasing on two wheels is probably one of the worst ideas man has ever come up with (I remember hearing about some 13 year old nerd in Toronto who used to chase supercells on a bicycle). Once when I was riding from Rochester NY to Toronto after visiting friends, I got caught in a freak April thunderstorm. Hunched on my parked bike in an open rest area while being pelted with one-inch hail somewhere in upstate New York was probably one of the scariest experiences of my life….. With that, I give you… the WeatherScooter.

This monstrosity of nerdiness was submitted on the Hamsexy Forums by good friend of the site KU4MY at some hamfest in South Carolina. I don’t care what anyone says … there is absolutley NO WAY anyone can avoid looking like a complete nerd riding a scooter. It’s a LITTLE better when you’re in Asia, because it’s the only way to get around and everyone else is riding them… but in North America… it’s a hard look to pull off. This guy certainly doesn’t help matters.

The only reason this thing isn’t loaded down with radios is that it’s puny 150cc motor and alternator wouldn’t be able to handle the load – these things can barely handle it’s own headlights.

Frozen Ham Steaks….

An anonymous contributor sent us these photos, taken from a repeater site in Western Idaho. This is a classic example of how some hams just don’t know how to work with radio equipment. This co-located site donated some of it’s space to the local ham club to put up a 70cm repeater…. this repeater operated fine until a windstorm hit. The only casualties was the club’s UHF folded dipoles (the remaining one seen dangling on top of the VHF dipole) and what’s left of the solar panel array. Unfortunatley, a combination of ice loading and poor mounting quickly took the ham repeater (and probably some of the other customers on the site) off of the air. Click on the photos to see them in their frosty fullness.

Wayne’s off the Tower

bilde.jpgSeveral people have e-mailed us informing us that Wayne is down from the radio tower he climbed a week ago in protest of losing a lawsuit filed against him and his neighbours.

From the Montgomery, Alabama Advertiser:

Wetumpka man ends tower protest

Wayne Spires made his descent from a 68-foot radio tower today to end his protest of a court ruling on an ongoing land dispute in a small community outside Wetumpka.

Spires, 61, chose 1 p.m. to complete a full week – to the hour – on the tower behind his Wallsboro home.

“I’m weak-legged,” Spires told the Advertiser, adding that he came down because friends had called the secretary of Circuit Court Judge John Bush and “she said he’s still doing some research (on the case).”

Spires and neighbors say they were wrongly sued for failing to participate in a homeowners group they wanted no part of.

Spires denied overnight storms played a factor in his decision to come down and said he would go back up the tower depending on the judge’s decision.

We wish Wayne and his family well, and will keep your advised of any further updates, and if Wayne remains earthbound. We all support you, Wayne! Keep fighting.

A letter from the Spires camp

We got a letter today regarding Wayne Spires and his sojourn up the ham tower:

Hi Bryan, this is Wayne’s son-in-law. Wayne wanted me to thank you for your support. While this isn’t currently about ham radio, it could be one day. With one man in total control of the homeowner’s association, he could decide that one day he doesn’t want Wayne to have his ham tower. He could then charge him whatever fees he wanted to if Wayne doesn’t remove it.

Thanks guys!

And if you want to see a really funny thread, check out the thread on QRZ about this. The thread wasn’t 10 messages long before some OF ham tries to pick a pointless fight …. and some guy named ke7gal calls the Masons a “white supremacist cult” (owing to the square and compass I proudly use as my avatar on QRZ).

Keep supporting Wayne!!

Caitlin Martin update

An anonymous submitter gave us this update on everyone’s favourite Transgendered scam artist, Caitlin Martin K7VO/K9NI:

—-

HamSexy Readers–Watch your wallet and member!

The transexual radio/computer scammer Caitlyn Martin is on the loose and has relocated back to her old haunt near Raleigh, North Carolina. She is staying away from the airwaves, and has refocused her efforts to get the confidence of computer readers. Leopards rarely change their spots and since no restitution has been done it is likely this scammer will poke it to computer readers via O’reilly.com. O’reilly has been contacted and is investigating so we’ll see which direction this goes. We all know his/her “deduct-a-dick-from-me” operation is not over yet (ouch, I don’t have much but the thought hurts the same) and that means some more sexy change scams are likely to occur.

More on Wayne Spires

bilde.jpgHere’s another article on Wayne Spires KF4BJT, the ham who climbed his tower last week to protest his being forced to join a homeowner’s association formed years after he bought his land.

We here at Hamsexy support KF4BJT 100% – this homeowner association obviously has other motives behind it’s actions… tower-owning hams have had a long history of clashing against arrogant and ignorant HOAs, and we’re glad that more and more are fighting against them.

He’s gotten some media coverage of his struggle – he’s appeared on TV and radio, and has been featured on a few websites.

The new article can be found by clicking here – as published in the Montgomery, Alabama Advertiser.

We wish Wayne the best of luck – and hope he makes it through his crusade safe and sound. Go get ’em, Wayne!!!
