The Hamsexy Toronto Meet

While Seth N3JFW couldn’t make it up from Maryland to meet with us because he’s feeling under the weather, we still managed to have a good time without him (I GUESS…)

Meet1

The meet was attended by Steve VA3FRY, Bryan VE3HBD, Adrian VA3AGF, Leigh VE3HYP, Justin VE3UDP, Mike VE3XLS, Rob VE3ESC and Tom (I’m sorry buddy I totally forgot your callsign!!!)

Meet11Copius amounts of beer, nachos, chicken wings and cheese-encrusted bread was consumed, and a good time was had by all. This was also the last chance I’d have to see a lot of my local friends before I go away to Taiwan for God knows how long – so it was nice to see everyone. I’m sorry I missed seeing Tom’s Hamsexy Impala, but the lightshow was quite visible as Rob and I drove by. Justin – send me the pics!! Everyone also got a chance to pose with the Hamsexy Trucker hat, which I eventually gave to Tom for buying me cheese-encrusted bread.

Meet10
Mike VE3XLS caught in the act – the EATING act.

Meet9

Meet8

Meet5

Meet3

Meet2

Thanks guys! It was a blast. See you all when I get back.

Tampa Bay Hamfest

Friend of the site and Hamfest correspondent Johnny Galaga sent us a whole mess of photos from the Tampa Bay Hamfest, home of Hamsexy on the Florida Gulf Coast.

He sent us so many great photos, we’ll stretch them across a few messages. (click on ’em to see the bigger versions). Enjoy!

Tampa2
If any schoolbuses are missing any hazard triangles, I think I found them….

Tampa1
We blurred out his callsign, but those are ARRL Callsign suspenders he’s wearing.
Where can I get a pair?

Tampa4
God knows, if Ham Radio needs anything, it’s more “Extra Classy” badges.

Tampa3
Hamsexy Van – Florida style

Tampa5
Every Cherokee’s worst nightmare. “Unit 82.. Unit 82… Conversation
with attractive female in progress. Need guidance. Over”

Tampa6
Hamsexy.com completely summed up in one photo –
Pimped-out ARES responder vehicle with Handicap parking permit.

Tampa7
I don’t know why a AAA membership sticker on an ARES
whackermobile strikes me as absolutely hilarious, but it
does. Check out the bumper stickers.

More photos later!!

QRZ EDITOR blows it again

For those who might (or might not) know, popular QRZ user and contributor W3SY was recently banned from QRZ for unknown reasons. There was some speculation on the Hamsexy Forums regarding the reasons for this, but a popular theory had to do with W3SY’s opinions on the Catholic Church.

A contact on the Hamsexy Forums tells us that, once again, it was the work of QRZ EDITOR a “secret squirrel” Moderator on QRZ.Com’s forums who has claimed his reasons for being anonymous stem from working in the Pentagon and something to do with the 9/11 attacks (yeah yeah, we know). QRZ EDITOR is also the person behind a lot of the unnecesary and unwarranted bannings of users of Hamsexy, among other bonehead moves.

Well, it seems that Fred AA7BQ, the usually sensible owner of QRZ.COM has wisely decided to go against QRZ EDITOR‘s rash actions and re-instated W3SY. Hopefuly Fred will finally reign in his loose gun and make QRZ a more interesting, fair and safe place to discuss amateur radio (but we doubt it – what else is there for us to laugh at than QRZ EDITOR‘s latest dumb move?)

Ah shucks – and we already had a place set for W3SY at the Hamsexy dining room table of the banned.

RallySexy

A Hamsexy coorespondant at the recent Rally of the Tall Pines in Bancroft, Ontairo (way north of Toronto in Canada) sent us this photo of some Rally hamsexyness.

Rally

Rally2

Our anonymous contributor writes:

This hamsexy mobile is one of a kind! POS comes to mind, rusty junker
almost knackerd a few spectators more then once. The guy wasent
needed, but they let him run anyways, I guess they didnt want to hurt
his feelings? You only need two cars for opening/closing stages – the
other two vehicles where quality, unlike this hamsexy whacker.

Radio mounted to a small piece of plywood, sitting on back seat.
Light and siren, both of which are unnoticable, are direct to the
cigarette plug.

Plenty of bags, food and garbage to go around.

Take the time to notice the heavy rusting, the “Baby Quattro” sticker
on the rear, as well as the duct tape holding on the numbers. Ghey.

Help support our Dayton 2006 booth!!

We’ve reserved the same booth at Dayton 2006 we had last year (inside the hall, near the ARRL), but we need your help to pay for it. If you can help, paypal what you can to [email protected]. We will be keeping a list of all those who donated, and will be thanking them publicly. Help Hamsexy keep it’s controversial and always fun presence at the Dayton Hamfest!!

Also, we invite all Hamsexy friends in Southern Ontario and Upstate New York to join us in Toronto for our December Hamsexy North meet and drink! It’ll be your last chance to buy Bryan VE3HBD a beer or tell him what a fat loser he is before he moves to Asia in January.

When: Tudesday December 6th 2005 at 7pm
Where: The Foggy Dew Irish Pub, on King street west of Bathurst

Justin VE3UDP is working on possibly arranging our own room, but we need an idea of who is going to show up.

Please RSVP this thread if you want to come. We’re expecting hamsexy friends from across Canada and the USA to attend, and we’d like to see all local friends of Hamsexy there!

Things to be thankful for

Ham
We got this message from Mark K8MHZ today, and I felt it was prudent, considering it’s Thanksgiving and all. The repeater is yours, Mark….

Today is the day that everyone (mostly) gathers together to give thanks. The usual givings are for family, friends and health.

But if you are reading this, you also are part of ham radio, and think of what there is to be thankful for because of that.

We are part of the greatest hobby on the planet, the granddaddy of all hobbies.

A hobby that can put us across the mike from kings, queens, astronauts, teachers, diplomats, soldiers, engineers and just plain nice folks.

A hobby that provides us with life long friendships, friendships which are not restricted by distances.

A hobby that provides us with knowledge, both technical and interpersonal.

A hobby that provides us with experiences, like the one’s myself and Ken Groom, ZR5AAD have had at the Air Fair.

A hobby that gives us new names, we wear our call signs proud, and always include them in our introductions to new hams.

A hobby that can teach us a way to communicate with one and other without the use of voice, regardless of language, even regardless of the ability to see or hear.

A hobby steeped in tradition, yet thriving upon technology allowing folks that cherish the old and embrace the new to work together heading in opposite directions.

A hobby that puts the young and the old on the same level, both happy to be there.

A hobby to be proud of, a hobby we bring our children into with pride.

A hobby consisting of the finest people in the world, both as grandiose and as fragile as the environment.

A hobby to be nurtured and protected so that we may leave it in better shape than how we found it.

Thank you all for being part of my hobby,

73 OMs and YLs de Mark K8MHZ
